The certification of the forest surfaces appears as a voluntary and transparent process to establish a frame of management in compliance with the principles of sustainable development of forests. The forest certification aims at guaranteeing that forests are managed in the respect for the on a local scale regional and national values.
The companies which adopt a system of certification, show a better corporate image and can also remove a greater economic profit from it. Laws and regulations in current forest management in Canada join inside the beacons which define the major principles of a sustainable management of forests.
The PEFC program gave consent to the CSA and SFI systems. The PEFC and the FSC are NGO which support the sustainable development of forests on an international scale, in a independent way one of the other one. Three systems (CSA, SFI, FSC) cover the major part of the forest surfaces under certification in Canada.
