The ecosystem-based management of boreal forest in Quebec

The ecosystem-based management concept is relatively recent in Quebec. Its gradual setting-up joins in the renewal of the forest practices to answer more adequately the ecological concerns inherent to the concept of sustainable forest development, which contains legal fondations in the law on forests.

The forest certification aims at guaranteeing that forests are managed in the respect for the on a local scale regional and national values.

The maximisation of the economic consequences of the exploitation of natural resources in regions resources
Portail QuébecThe public consultations relative to the Committee on the maximisation of the economic consequences of the exploitation of natural resources were held during the winter, 2003. Meetings took place in seven regions resources.
On the whole, 169 memories were put down, among which 29 by national bodies. This vast consultation follows upon the Meeting of regions held in November, 2002, event during which the local communities had expressed, by the intervention of their delegates, the desire to have more influence on their development. The Inquiry committee gave place to nine meetings, among which seven of a duration of day, in regions resources.
Generally, the maintained positions join from a region to the other one. We demand a decentralization of the activities of the MRNFP (Ministère des Ressources naturelles de la Faune et des Parcs) and the repatriation of royalties in regions resources. Regions ask for also more flexibility in the management of their respective territories, the creation of a fund intended for the search and for the development, in partnership with the entrepreneurial middles, and the setting up for incentive in the second and in the third transformation.
