The ecosystem-based management of boreal forest in Quebec
(june 2010)
The ecosystem-based management concept is relatively recent in Quebec. Its gradual setting-up joins in the renewal of the forest practices to answer more adequately the ecological concerns inherent to the concept of sustainable forest development, which contains legal fondations in the law on forests.

Zipf's law
An analysis of distribution of a set of thematic bound to the forest, as they were approached or not by the various actors. The analysis of flow of thematic presented in the lower graph, refers to the natural phenomena of distribution of the événementiels sets.
The graph gives the distribution of thematic approached according to three criteria:
The proportion of the lines of writing by memory;
The relative importance granted in every memory.
Concerning the last two criteria, although they refer both among lines of writing; the one covers the whole text while the other one covers only the part being the object of one or some thematic so admitted.

The compiled results are partially revealing of a typical phenomenon of the law of Zipf. Such as we can observe it in the lower graph, a tendency indicating an inverse relation seems to be outlined in the neighborhood of the cases going away most from the origin absolved from both axes. These borderline cases tend to reveal a phenomenon of contingency according to which the popularity of a theme is conversely a function of the space or the attention which we grant it when we treat with it.

The product of two variables; the relative importance granted to a theme and the number of memories which treat with it, allows to establish an indication of link in the law of Zipf. This indication reveals a relative degree of link to a state of contingency according to which the complex nature of a theme leads a resistance in the free traffic of the ideas. Otherwise, we could expect that the total number of lines of text by theme, for all the memories which form the sample is a function of this indication which we approach higher. In the facts, we observe a strong coefficient of correlation (0,916) enter the distribution of the thematic according to this indication prototypic and the total number of lines, any reports of the sample.
The lower graph gives, under the shape of a curve, the number of thematic according to the busy row, compared to the indication of link to the law of Zipf. Such as we can notice it, an important break (in the row 2) marks a distinction between some thematics that we observe taking part in a typical phenomenon of the law of Zipf and the others.
